One Month, One Theme
This past week, my boys were with their paternal grandparents. I had rare, quiet time with just my little girl. Instead of filling every moment with productivity, I let myself experience something radical. I rested, which still feels unusual in our culture.
In that stillness, something softened. And in that softness, something became clear.
I found myself reflecting on a teaching from my meditation teacher training with davidji. It is a practice so simple, yet so profound. It completely changed how I approach growth and transformation.
The power of theming our months.
During last week’s meditation series, davidji reminded me of something most of us have never been taught. Real transformation doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from focusing more deeply.
Instead of scattering our energy across dozens of New Year’s resolutions, we focus on one quality. We live, breathe, and embody it for an entire month.
Think about how we usually approach January. We try to overhaul everything at once—our diet, our routines, our finances, our patience, our relationships, our mindset. And by February, we’re exhausted, discouraged, or quietly convinced something is wrong with us.
Nothing is wrong with you. What’s wrong is the strategy.
When we plant too many seeds at once, none of them receives the attention they need to take root. But when we tend one seed—watering it daily, noticing it, living it—it grows naturally.
Then, and only then, do we plant the next.
Practicing What I Teach
This week, I found myself living my Release • Reset • Rise framework in the most unforced way.
Release – I let go of the belief that rest must be earned. I released the subtle guilt that often accompanies stillness.
Reset – I used the quiet to reflect. I did so without urgency. I considered how I actually want to move through this year. I reflected not just on what I want to accomplish.
Rise – From that grounded place, something emerged that felt clear and aligned.
Just as I did for 2025, I sat down and chose 12 themes for the year ahead. Each theme is designed to be lived for 30 days. They are not goals to achieve but qualities I would like to cultivate.
- January: Clarity — Seeing clearly, setting inner direction
- February: Love / Compassion — Softening the heart
- March: Trust — Releasing control, deepening trust in life
- April: Renewal — Releasing and letting old patterns fall away
- May: Flow — Moving with ease instead of force
- June: Freedom — Expansion, lightness, joy
- July: Abundance — Noticing fullness, not lack
- August: Ease — Allowing life to support me
- September: Courage — Showing up with integrity
- October: Presence — Being fully here
- November: Gratitude — Deep appreciation for what is
- December: Peace / Equanimity — Inner stillness, even in motion
As I wrote them out, my nervous system relaxed. It didn’t feel like pressure. It felt like alignment and potential.
The Journal I Created
What began as a personal practice became something I wanted to share. I created a 12-Month Intentions Journal for anyone who’s tired of chasing change and ready to live it instead.
Each month includes:
- Space to name your intention
- Release • Reset • Rise reflection prompts
- Room for insights from meditation and daily life
- Gentle tracking of how the theme shows up
- An end-of-month reflection to honor growth
This isn’t about doing more. It’s about devoting your attention to what matters—one quality at a time. Like tending a garden. Like allowing growth instead of forcing it.
An Invitation
I’m sharing this because I believe change happens- not through willpower, but through presence.
If you’re craving more intention and less overwhelm…
If you’re ready for a rhythm that feels humane and sustainable…
If you want a framework that works with your nervous system, not against it…
I’d love to invite you into this practice.
I’m offering the complete 12-Month Intentions Journal free to my community. When you subscribe, you’ll receive:
- The full journal with all 12 months
- Gentle monthly support aligned with each theme
- Guided reflections to deepen your practice
Let this be your year of intentional Release, conscious Reset, and steady Rising.
One month. One theme.
P.S. — Which monthly theme is calling to you right now? I’d genuinely love to hear.
